The 1972 USA version of the base model 911 Targa was unique in a number of details. The ‘Oil-Flap’ that’s situated behind the passenger door (used for filling the engine oil) was a one year only design. The Porsche engineers decided that a simpler more efficient manner of filling the oil tank could be achieved with an external flap, but in practicality, so many owners ended up filling fuel into the oil tank, it was dropped a year later. Hence, its rarity !
The other detail, that is deemed unique, is the fuel injection system. The T model was normally equipped with Carburettors, but this model benefitted from the MFI fuel injection system, as fitted to the E and S (and RS) models, giving a lovely smooth, torquey power delivery
This particular car, built in Germany in April 1972 then shipped to the USA. It was registered by the Porsche/Audi franchise Conine-Swab (Tulsa, Oklahoma) on the 18th May 1972.
