Magnus Walker: Urban Outlaw Porsche Collector

Magnus Walker: The Urban Outlaw of Porsche Collecting

British-born and L.A.-based car collector Magnus Walker has become an icon in the classic Porsche world, celebrated for his unapologetic passion, DIY ethos, and one-of-a-kind custom 911s.

Walker’s journey began in Sheffield, England, where he first fell in love with a Porsche 911 at age 10 after seeing one at the Earl’s Court Motor Show. He later moved to Los Angeles, launched his fashion brand Serious, and transformed a warehouse into a creative hub for car customization and film shoots.

His collection now spans around 40 vintage Porsche 911s, most of which were rescued from scrapyards and rebuilt as bold, bespoke works. These cars reflect his philosophy: “Build a car you love, not one others think you should.” They range from rare early models to race-ready “streetable track cars,” often painted in red, white, and blue, symbols of his dual British and American identity.

Highlighted in the Urban Outlaw documentary (2012), Walker and his collection represented punk rock rebellion and automotive authenticity, a standout in a polished classic car culture.

Notable Exhibit: Peterson Museum Vault

As part of the 10th-anniversary celebration of Urban Outlaw, ten of Walker’s most prized Porsches were displayed at the Petersen Automotive Museum’s Legends Room Vault. Magnus and friends, not trailers, drove each car to the exhibit, a statement of how he truly believes cars should be experienced.

Included was his 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo, documented as the first US-delivered Turbo—a landmark both in automotive history and in his personal garage.

Beyond Cars: Culture & Collaborations

Walker’s influence extends past the garage. He’s partnered with Nike, Hot Wheels, and participated in a TEDxTalk titled “Go With Your Gut,” inspiring a new generation of collectors, racers, and creatives.

Why Magnus Walker Matters

Authenticity over aesthetics: His cars are built for driving—not auction display.

Collector as storyteller: Every car reflects his personal journey and approach.

Cultural crossover: From fashion to film, Walker bridges lifestyle and automotive fandom.

For Porsche and collector car enthusiasts, Magnus Walker isn’t just a name, he’s a movement. His garage is living history, his collection art, and his legacy continuous inspiration.

What Makes “Goldfinger” Unique

Lime Gold Metallic Finish: The entire body is painted in a unique shade originally from the 991 generation, giving it a striking and individual aesthetic.

Engine & Chassis Upgrades: The donor 3.2L engine was rebuilt to 3.4L, producing 270 bhp — paired with a G50 5-speed gearbox and upgraded clutch system.

Performance Enhancements: The car features drilled and ventilated large disc brakes, bigger calipers, and bespoke 17" Fuchs alloys (9" front, 10" rear) wrapped in Toyo high-performance tyres.

Restoration & Style Details

Metalwork & Safety Modifications: RUF fully disassembled the car, fitted an integrated roll cage, retained RSR-style bodywork, and added a custom rear bumper and spoiler for improved airflow and design integrity.

Luxurious Interior: The cabin blends gold Alcantara for the headliner, carbon-fibre bucket seats wrapped in buffalo leather and pepita fabric, marrying vintage feel with modern comfort.

Performance & Legacy

Although fewer than 30 RUF-modified cars were built on custom chassis, “Goldfinger” is particularly significant, not just for its bespoke details, but as part of RUF’s wider legacy in redefining Porsche performance. RUF's limited-series CTR “Yellowbird” in the same era famously achieved 211 mph and placed RUF firmly as a performance pioneer in 1987.
