This beautiful 912E was imported by us from California in the past. 1976 was the first year that Porsche's were galvanised and became more rust-resistant, and also the only year the 912E model was built. Equipped with a 4 cylinder injection boxer engine with a smooth-shifting 5-speed gearbox. After an absence of six years, the 912 was reintroduced in North America for the 1976 model year as the 912E to fill the entry-level position vacated by the discontinuation of the 914, while the new 924 - another vehicle from the joint Porsche and Volkswagen effort and the official replacement for the 914 - was completed and put into production. During the production period from May 1975 to July 1976, 2,092 of the 912E were built, exclusively for the US market. By comparison, for the 1976 model year, 4,784 911s were built for the US. With a suggested retail price of $10,845, the 912E was $3,000 cheaper at the time than the 911S.
