  • Stunning in every way
  • The best colour combination
  • Unbelievable history
  • Low ownership

Here we have one of the rarest Porsches around, a 928 GT manual with the dog leg gearbox. This is a UK supplied RHD example finished in Guards red with off white leather, red piping and off-white carpets. An absolute stunner in every way! This beauty was sold new by Merlin Porsche of Cardiff on 22/8/1990 and unbelievably has only had four previous owners since, quite an unusual thing on a Porsche that is 35 years old.

The specification of the 928 is equally as impressive with such niceties as electric sunroof, boot spoiler, headlamp wash system, and a very period and maybe original Blaupunkt Toronto radio cassette. In fact, it appears that the Porsche is completely stock standard as it left the factory, which is a good thing and something you do not come across very often. The paperwork is in a different league with a full book pack complete with leather folder, owner’s manual and instruction books. The best bit is that we have a service book containing 37 stamps! Definitely something you don’t see very often. The owner tells us that the 928 had a cam belt replacement some 2,000 miles ago and it comes with a collection of older MOTs which sit very well with the current one valid until October. We also have an MOT history, which is lovely and is very clean, and shows how well it has been cared for. You can even go round the GT and spot the original Porsche factory stickers, this is that special.

The Porsche 928 is a grand touring car which was manufactured and marketed by Porsche AG of Germany from 1977 to 1995 across a single generation with an intermediate facelift. It is a 2+2 coupé with a rear hatchback. The 928 has a water-cooled engine which is mounted in the front and drives the rear wheels. It was Porsche's first production car with a V8 engine. Initially conceived to address changes in the automotive market, it represented Porsche's first fully in-house design for a production vehicle and was intended to potentially replace the Porsche 911 as the company's flagship model. This would have been a mistake, knowing what we know now, but it was a great edition to the Porsche range. The 928 aimed to blend the performance and handling characteristics of a sports car with the comfort, spaciousness, and ride quality of a luxury car. Maybe the ultimate GT car of the time, many manufacturers have tried to copy this lead and never quite got it right. Porsche executives believed that the 928 would have broader appeal compared to the compact, somewhat outdated, and slow-selling air-cooled 911, back then this was the case, if only they knew what we know now. It achieved high top speeds and earned recognition upon its 1978 release by winning the European Car of the Year award, a high accolade indeed, usually family type cars only win things like that. Following the departure of the principal of Porsche at the time, Fuhrmann, Peter Schutz, his successor, opted to continue selling both models concurrently, believing that the 911 still had a place in the company's lineup. How right he was. However, legislative restrictions against rear-engine vehicles never materialized. Although the 928 didn't achieve the sales targets envisioned by Fuhrmann, it garnered a devoted following and enjoyed an 18-year production run. This is good and bad, not so good for Porsche back then but very good for us today as this makes this example so rare and desirable and totally unreplaceable. There can never be another car that can come anywhere near this 928 GT.

This is a must see, you may never get the chance to see a UK supplied RHD 928 GT such as this, and it’s in red. What’s not to like?
