From its beginnings in late 1966 to the end of the 964-generation in 1994, the 911 Targa model with its removable roof panel formed a category of its own. In fact, any removable roof panel that spans the width of a car is often called a Targa roof yet, as Porsche famously stated, ''only with the 911 Targa can you enjoy pure driving pleasure-and in every season.''

Clearly drawn to the idea of open-air driving, much like a convertible, yet with the option of a fixed roof, this 1987 911 Carrera Targa was selected for its distinctive blend of open-air character and coupe-like refinement. Finished in desirable Diamond Blue Metallic, this German delivery Targa features an equally attractive Marine Blue leather interior with pinstripe cloth. At the time of ordering, it was additionally specified with a stronger battery, a Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 with Arimat, central locking system, and an electrically adjustable passenger seat.

According to its original service book, it was ordered through Hahn Sportwagen and delivered at the factory to the owner of ULMAN Dichtungstechnik, an automotive gasket manufacturer based in Sindelfingen at the time. Service book stamps and accompanying invoices show that the Diamond Blue Targa was well-loved, travelling some 40,000 kilometers by the end of the 1980s with regular visits to Hahn Sportwagen.

By the mid-1990s the Carrera 3.2 had moved to Chevilly, France, just south of Paris and then, later, with the same owner, to Ottmarsheim near the French-German border with approximately 100,000 kilometers by 2001. Additional ownership in Septmoncel near Geneva, and later in the south of France near Avignon and in Marseille, followed, with records revealing that as the Targa's uncommon livery and desirable specification became increasingly appreciated, its use became more selective. In 2014 the Targa was acquired by the consignor and imported to Belgium where is has been used sparingly and nicely maintained and serviced by the owner's in-house Porsche mechanic.

Offered today with just over 150,000 kilometers, this 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa combines an exceptionally attractive specification with the mechanical character for which the model is so highly regarded. Finished in Diamond Blue Metallic over Marine Blue leather with pinstripe cloth, and equipped with the desirable G50 five-speed transmission, it is as handsome as it is engaging to drive. Add in its substantial history file and original books, and this Targa presents an unusually appealing opportunity to acquire a well-documented Carrera 3.2 that can be enjoyed without reservation.
