Patrick Dempsey’s Passion for Vintage Porsches

Patrick Dempsey’s Passion for Vintage Porsches: A Hollywood Star with a Racing Soul

When you think of Patrick Dempsey, most people picture the charming actor from Grey’s Anatomy.
But beyond the big screen, Dempsey is a serious petrolhead — and his love for classic Porsche cars runs deep. More than just a collector, he’s an accomplished racing driver and a passionate ambassador for vintage automotive culture, especially when it comes to the timeless appeal of classic Porsches.

From Hollywood to the Racetrack

Patrick Dempsey’s transition from actor to racing driver isn’t just a hobby — it’s a full-blown passion.
Over the years, he’s competed in some of the world’s most iconic endurance races, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Rolex 24 at Daytona, and the Porsche Carrera Cup. He co-owns Dempsey- Proton Racing, a Porsche-backed endurance racing team that has seen real success on the world stage.

But Dempsey’s love for Porsche didn’t begin on the track. It started with a deep admiration for the brand’s rich history and beautifully engineered classics — a love that’s reflected in his personal collection of vintage Porsche models.

A 1963 Porsche 356: The Crown Jewel

One of the standout cars in Dempsey’s personal garage is a 1963 Porsche 356, a true icon of post-war automotive design. Known for its graceful curves, nimble handling, and lightweight construction, the 356 is the car that laid the foundation for what would become the legendary Porsche 911.

Dempsey has often spoken about the emotional connection he feels when driving his classic 356, describing it as a pure driving experience that keeps him grounded in the essence of motoring. He frequently takes the car out on scenic California roads, enjoying both its mechanical simplicity and timeless style.
